February ‘26

‘Rain rain go away, come again another day’. A song that’s been stuck in my head for the whole of February I swear. It’s been relentless. But on the upside, it’s meant that I've spent a lot of time in my studio keeping dry and creating some beautiful new work.

I spent a long weekend down in Newquay, taking some time to sketch one of my favourite views there (and one of my favourite hotels, The Headland). Those old enough (!) might recognise it as the hotel from the film ‘The Witches’- It’s gloriously old fashioned and stepping inside fills you up with a sense of old school decadence, with a touch of nostalgia. All a YES PLEASE from me.

Anyway, Ive gone off on a tangent- The little watercolour wash sketch is simply the beginnings of what at some point will be a big oil painting. Watercolours are a fabulous way of capturing a view point, and the atmosphere, quickly. I love the bleed marks in the clouds and the water on the sand. A few quick pen squiggles here and there to remind me of the texture, and I have a useful reminder of that moment in time.

I now have some stunning new 16’’ by 20’’ limited edition giclee prints of my oil painting ‘Halcyon’ available to buy. They are available unframed at £60 and look absolutely amazing on the wall. Pop me a message if you’d like one for your own.

I started an acrylic piece last week, focusing on a lovely stretch of the South West Coast path, from Plymouth, heading towards Bovisand beach. I took the photo last May, on a gorgeously bright sunny day, when the sea was oh so blue and the sky was oh so clear. I find that when the days are so grey, I’m drawn back to these summery photos waiting on my phone and start paintings without a clear intention of how I’m going to finish them. This is definitely one of those paintings; So far I’ve sent about 5 hours on it, when I should definitely be finishing up some others I’ve already started. Anyway, LOTS more to do to it yet, but I like the feel it has so far. Bright and warm. The opposite of the view outside right now.

My latest watercolour painting of Cirencester is now finished. ‘Swan Yard- Cirencester’ is now beautifully complete in a grey wooden frame, and is available to buy here. I have some gorgeous A4 and A3 signed prints of it too. It’s been very popular at my markets so far :)

Let’s take a moment to appreciate how beautiful these ‘Cornish Glow’ prints look under glass. They really do glow. My consistent best seller however is my little five frame below it, ‘Sunrise to Sunset’. It’s currently only available at my markets but next month I’ll be listing this on my website. They are great value at £55 and are ready to hang on the wall- Pop me a message if you’d like one and I’ll notify you when they go on sale online.
