August 2026
Ah August. The height and also end of the Summer. It’s been an amazing but exhausting month. I’ve loved the amount of sun I’ve been able to enjoy and I think I’ve been running on solar energy, but I’m now ready to look towards some cooler months, where I can hibernate and create lots of new work, without worrying about keeping the dog cool on walks (!) and the studio being too hot. I’m itching to go blackberry picking, make a crumble and actually feel a little chilly.
The Cirencester Art Society Art Exhibition is currently running at the Cirencester Parish Church in the marketplace and is in full swing. I feel so lucky to be a part of it! Walking past the Church (and past all the noticeboards in Cirencester!) and seeing my artwork as the background of the poster is a real special moment over and over again.
The exhibition runs every day until Monday 31st August. There’s such a marvellous array of work from the whole Art Society, there really is something for everyone. It’s definitely worth popping in and taking a look. This is my last exhibition until 2027 (when I have a huge solo exhibition and a few collabs!).
Fistral Beach Oil Painting
I’m at a stage now with my Fistral Beach painting where I think it might be finished, but feel I need to spend some time just looking at it before I make that final designs. So I’ve hung it in the living room, wet paint and all, so I can do just that. I think it’s so important to give a painting a bit of breathing space before it settles into being an actual finished individual. A bit like humans really.
On the living room wall, alongside ‘Storm Clouds and Seafoam’ watercolour original.
I love its intensity, and the tiny Headland Hotel in the distance giving a sense of perspective. I took the photo that inspired this piece back in January this year, just before a huge storm blew in and me and the dog got absolutely soaked. It had been unseasonably mild, as the daffodils had already started to come out. I knew then that it was a scene I’d love to try and capture in oils. I’ll keep looking at it for a few weeks, then give it a proper name and a coat of varnish if I think its ready to leave alone!
Cirencester Market Place Greeting card
At the beginning of August, I painted a new watercolour of Cirencester Market Place, with the intention of turning it into a new greeting card. The cards are now back from the framers and I think they are fab! I’m testing them out at my exhibition in the Church currently, and they are selling well. You can also nab your own on the greeting card section of my website here. I have a fantastic selection of local scenes, seascapes and of course the traditional birthday card!
The original painting of Cirencester Market Place is waiting for me to pop it into a frame, and then will be joining me at my next Cornhall market on Saturday 19th September.
Well, that’s my news for August :) In September I’ll be launching my new range of Christmas cards for 2027- Think of ALL the dogs, wearing Christmas hats, a funny pun (Sneak peek below!) and some beautiful local scenes. Like last year, I’ll be donating a percentage of my Christmas card sales to charity- more on this in next blog.
Thanks for the support, as always freinds!
